Student of the Month for April/May 2017
My name is Andre Thomas, and I’m a Senior at Inderkum High School in the CECA Program. I have lived in Sacramento most of my life and attended many schools within Natomas. I have always been advanced in academics, and I entered high school wanting to prioritize college preparation. I viewed CECA as a great opportunity to try something new and to benefit from it. Being in the first graduating CECA class, I had to maintain a flexible mindset. I knew that there would be ups and downs to the Program, but I remained because of the overwhelming benefits in the end.
The first day of college classes my Junior year was a huge stepping stone into my academic career. We entered the classroom with people of all ages and the environment was totally different from high school. I enjoy the more mature setting because it benefits those who really take class seriously. I am grateful for experiencing the college atmosphere early so I can know what to expect once I attend a four-year university.
My future can result in many different outcomes. I am prioritizing the universities down in Southern California. I see So-Cal as an opportunity and rich area of the state. I have been accepted to San Diego State and I would like to attend there. However, Long Beach has offered me a far more enticing financial package. I plan on majoring in electrical engineering and pursuing a career in mathematics.
CONGRATULATIONS TO CECA SENIOR LIZ KUTEK WHO RECEIVED ACCEPTANCE LETTERS TO ATTEND GEORGETOWN, BERKELEY AND UCLA.
